Velvet Red, Yagodka and Yellow Furry
The last three tomato varieties of 2021 including one of our favorites and possibly all time favorite.
7. Velvet Red Cherry
This tomato blew us away!
I am a lover of velvet and not only were the stems and leaves a glaucous, velvety wonderfulness but the tomatoes themselves were velvety, some even when red. Like little peaches. So adorable!!!
But the Indigo Rose were pretty - no taste, though.
The Velvet Red were delicious. By far the best red cherry we’ve grown out of Gardener’s Delight, Steakhouse, Yagodka and this. Sweet but not too sweet, great acidity and flavorsome.
Plus they were prodigious growers. Out of all of the tomatoes they were the only ones to completely fill out the cattle panels and they produced relatively early and straight on till frost.

8. Yagodka Cherry
Started these the same time as the rest but something went awry and I’m not sure what.
They didn't grow well, they didn;t last long, they didn't taste great.

9. Yellow Furry Tomato
Everytime I read this name I think “yellow fury”, not “furry”. It’s like a superhero tomato.
There was a mix up with some of the unidentified plants and I’m not sure what exactly happened with these guys.
At one point later in the summer in the overflow garden I wondered why there were yellow tomatoes when I clearly hadn’t planted any (I clearly forgot). Mostly they got eaten by the chickens. I’m not sure I tasted any.

That’s it, that’s all for this year’s tomatoes.
The only one I’m really looking forward to growing again are the Velvet Reds.
The Paul Robeson, Purden’s Purple and Indigo Rose will get another chance but they may never make it back into the rotation.
I’m considering trying some plum tomatoes for next year to try something a little different. Maybe we’ll prefer them to beefsteak?
